About this course
Understand how generative AI works and learn to use it confidently and responsibly at work. You practise writing effective prompts, use AI assistants to speed up everyday tasks, connect language models to your own data, and build a small AI-powered application. Covers the risks too: accuracy, privacy, bias and security. Suitable for professionals, students and teams across roles; no coding experience is required for most of the course.
Course content
1Understanding generative AI
- What generative AI is and what it is good and bad at
- How language models work, at a conceptual level
- The tools landscape: chat assistants, image tools and APIs
2Prompt engineering
- Writing clear prompts: role, context, task and format
- Few-shot examples, step-by-step reasoning and iterating
- Prompt patterns for writing, analysis, coding and learning
3AI for everyday productivity
- Drafting, summarising, translating and brainstorming
- Working with spreadsheets, documents and meeting notes
- Checking and improving AI output
4Working with your own information
- Why models make things up (hallucination) and how to reduce it
- Retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) explained
- Building a simple question-answering assistant over documents
5Using AI through APIs
- Calling a language-model API from a script or a no-code tool
- Structured outputs (JSON) and tool or function calling
- Cost, speed and limits
6Evaluating and testing AI output
- Judging quality, accuracy and consistency
- Simple evaluation sets and test prompts
7Responsible and safe use
- Privacy, confidentiality and company policy
- Bias, fairness, copyright and intellectual property
- Security risks such as prompt injection
8Building with AI
- Designing a small AI-powered workflow or assistant
- Adding human review where it matters
9Capstone project
- Build and present a working AI-powered tool or workflow for a real task

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a technical or coding background?
No. The course is suitable for professionals, students and teams across roles, and no coding experience is required for most of it.
What will I learn?
You learn how generative AI works at a conceptual level, how to write effective prompts, how to use AI assistants for everyday tasks, how to connect language models to your own information, how to call AI through APIs, and how to evaluate AI output.
Is the course practical or mostly theory?
It is practical. You practise writing prompts, use AI to speed up everyday work, and build a small AI-powered application or workflow in the capstone project.
Does the course cover the risks of using AI?
Yes. It covers accuracy and hallucination, privacy and confidentiality, bias and fairness, copyright and security risks such as prompt injection, and shows where to add human review.
How long is the course and will I get a certificate?
The course is 24 hours across 9 modules, taught through live, trainer-led, hands-on sessions. Eligible students receive an Omega Academy certificate with a verification code that anyone can check online.
